Unlike most of my Facebook friends, for me, today is just an ordinary day. Nothing special about it, although sometimes I really wish there was. I don't care about what happened between my parents because that is between them. What used to bother me was the plain and simple truth that he never tried, never put forth the effort. And sometimes it still hurts.
It has been 17 years. I just wanted to let you know that I made it without you, Dad.

I don't think people realize when they post about their sweet kids or great parents on Facebook that not everyone has those things. For some of us there's a dull ache in our hearts today. I used the holiday to phone the real man in my life, my grandfather. There are great people all around us, even if we don't call them "Father" or "Mother".

My heart aches every father's day for all of my kids, I had a father and a grandfather but they are both gone and I miss them so, I cry for all of our loss. I love you so much but I know I will never replace a father figure in your life.
